I've built, and am continuing to enhance, a tool for my wife and I to keep track of the shows we are watching, and watch to watch. She has shows she watches, I have shows I watch, and we have shows we watch together, as well as a backlog of shows. To keep track of it, I built this.

I typically just host this type of thing on my Synology NAS, or a cheap VPS with Linux. I came across a post on Reddit that recommended Railway, and figured I'd give it a try. So far, I am quite impressed with the ease of use, and the pricing!

I've just pushed my production site across to railway after self hosting on VPS + Coolify. I was really pleased with how easy the setup was and especially the incremental per second billing makes a lot of sense. the Observability stuff is also nice, watching my vCPU dribble along is very comforting.

My Registrar is on GoDaddy so the CNAME Squashing stuff was a bit of a kick in the nuts, I wasn't expecting to have to change my nameservers. The outage was unpleasantly long. Luckily cloudflare has a free plan and the caching seems to have improved the performance of the static parts of the website.

Stack is pretty boring, Nuxt3 + Subabase (cloud) with a little extra Typesense + redis sprinkled in for funsies. Site is a web presence + API Backend for a flutter app.

Overlabels is a code-first bridge between Twitch Helix API (Follower / subscriber / game / stream data) and Twitch EventSub API (alerts / events). Bolted on top of that is Ko-fi, Streamlabs and GPSlogger.app integration and all data of any integration can be used as static values in your templates, but also in the comparison engine. This opens up the floodgates to compare data sources with each other and manipulate your overlays as wild as you can imagine. It's just HTML and CSS after all.

Dewey — a managed RAG backend for AI applications

A few things we're proud of:

The worker treats document processing as a first-class event stream. As a document moves through the pipeline (uploading -> processing -> sectioned -> embedded -> ready), status events push via SSE to the dashboard in real time, and outgoing webhooks fire to customer endpoints with HMAC-signed payloads and exponential backoff retry. The section manifest is queryable the moment sectioning completes, before a single embedding is written. We also ship an MCP server (@meetdewey/mcp) so Claude Desktop, Cursor, and other MCP-compatible clients can search and research document collections with no custom integration. Railway made the multi-service setup trivial. Internal networking between the API and worker, managed Postgres with a public URL for migrations, environment promotion. It just works.

I'm building a unique real-time social media networking platform with a cool feed and UI animations that can be used on the web and as a PWA for phones of pc, and hopefully on iOS which the skeleton and UI is there but isn't finished as web is, yeah, easier in a sense. It was originally a platform for DJs. But it needs more frontend work that I'm not so qualified to do, along with a few backend fixes and maybe some revamps in some areas. As a solo dev, it's been kinda challenging. It gets technical pretty quickly. There are cool features and so many plans with this, I've been trying to add slowly, and refactors haven't been fun!

Sharing a small tool I built for my own post-deploy refresh loop.

I use Railway alongside a few other deploy platforms, and I kept leaving dashboard tabs open just to know whether a deploy finished. So I built DeployBar: a free, open-source native macOS menu bar app that watches deployments and sends a macOS notification when a deploy becomes ready, fails, gets canceled, or disappears.

For Railway specifically:

Initially had started this as a self hosted php app and outsourced the development twice, but they screwed me so i rebuilt it from scratch using Cursor AI in December 2024 using Nextjs, but the ai back then was such a hassle to use so i gave up for a year, went travelling, and in February this year gave it another go and it's almost completed.

Supports multi tenancy with custom domains through Cloudlfare custom domains and a proxy worker. It's quite extensive. Integrates with print on demand services too.

I even built in a bug reporting widget that takes screenshot and annotates with one prompt :-)

Issues i identified with railway:

Their webservices are proxied and overwrite the http referrer which caused me a big headache to work around.

And builds don't support --target so i can't use same github project and target different folder/workers. Instead I have a Docker for the workers.

I am a Java developer who is an enthusiast of Spring Boot and search engines built on Apache Lucene like ElasticSearch and Solr

A few years ago the Solr library for Spring boot got archived as it lacked updates and maintenance which was sad.

However I decided to reboot the library fresh with the latest version of Spring Boot 4.0.0 and Solr 10 🌱

Once it was built and a sample app was setup, I needed a place to host it, so I thought I would try out Railway.

I had a few difficulties with deploying a Solr container as Railway defaults to root which Solr doesn't like running in. There were also a few ENV var mix ups, but apart from that its working now

Hey everyone, there's some really cool products in here so I thought I'd share what I've been working on too!

I've always been really bad at responding to PR/MRs during my career as an engineer & a lot of it is due to poor visibility.

I'd have to dig out the ones that I needed to review from the GitHub or GitLab dashboard (which would have a hundred other reviews waiting), or wait for my teammates to do the same and I'd just end up sending them a message on Slack.

And that works... kind of. Until they leave a review and text you on Slack again. And then you respond and text them on Slack AGAIN.

Hi! Quite an interesting thread to read, so many products and ideas! I personally use Railway to host and deploy https://travelpinhunt.com - a small website which is related to the hobby of travel pin collecting. It's goal is quite simple, not something over-the-top or AI powered and a bit niche: it is an easy to use database of places around the world which sell travel pins.

I've made this website as something I myself wanted to exist, because if you are collecting pins while traveling, it's hard to know where to find and buy a quality pin (or any pin really) to add to your collection when you visit a new city - so you have to visit many gift shops and try to find a place which sells pins, which can be especially challenging in not very popular destinations. The goal of TravelPinHunt is to solve this problem by firstly adding locations where I've bought pins himself as a foundation, and then crowd-sourcing pin locations from fellow collectors, who can submit them to be added to the main database via a special form. That's it! :)

Built a Metabase template after noticing a pattern in a couple threads here (the "Metabase backup" and "Metabase deployment failing" ones) - people losing their dashboards/questions on redeploy or migration. Turns out it's because Metabase ships with an embedded H2 database by default, and H2 writes to the container filesystem - so on Railway every redeploy wipes it. Metabase's own docs say H2 isn't for production, but nothing in the default setup stops you from ending up there.

This template points Metabase at its own dedicated Postgres 17 service from first boot (on a volume, private network, not the DB you're actually analyzing), so there's no H2 to lose data from in the first place. JVM heap is tuned to 2GB for Railway's standard instance instead of left unset.

Built a one-click Railway template for Docling (open-source doc parser, IBM). It converts PDFs, DOCX, images, and scans into clean Markdown/JSON with tables and layout preserved, so it's handy as the ingestion step in front of an LLM/RAG pipeline instead of fighting tesseract on anything more complex than a plain scan.

Wrapped it behind a Caddy proxy with a bearer token auto-generated on deploy, since the stock image has no auth of its own and I didn't want it sitting open on a public Railway domain. Runs on the stock docling-serve-cpu image underneath, no GPU needed.

If you'd rather run it yourself, it's just quay.io/docling-project/docling-serve-cpu, no patches. One thing worth flagging either way: it wants ~2GB RAM for the layout models, and it's not built for handwriting - typed/scanned text and tables are its strength.

Built a Railway template for ERPNext (Frappe's full open-source ERP - accounting, stock, manufacturing, HR, CRM) after the standard deploy pattern for it kept breaking on Railway specifically.

Frappe apps run as a bench: nginx + gunicorn + socketio + a worker + a scheduler, all sharing one sites/ directory. Railway volumes can't be shared between services, so the usual 4-container split (the pattern every other listing in this category uses) can't actually share that directory here. This template runs the whole bench in one container under honcho instead, so it's 2 services (app + MariaDB) instead of 4, no shared-volume problem.

Also skipped the healthcheck on purpose: first boot runs bench new-site, which measured ~300s on Railway - almost exactly Railway's 300s healthcheck default, so a healthcheck kills the container mid-site-creation about half the time and the retry then fails forever ("database already exists"). No healthcheck, first-boot script is idempotent under a kill instead.

Built a Railway template for Kokoro-FastAPI - an OpenAI-compatible TTS API around the Kokoro-82M model. It's a drop-in replacement for OpenAI's /v1/audio/speech endpoint, so you can point an existing OpenAI TTS client at it by just changing the base_url.

Kokoro itself is the interesting part: 82M params, runs fine on CPU (no GPU needed), and quality is surprisingly close to ElevenLabs for narration-style use cases - way past espeak/piper territory. Streaming, multiple output formats (MP3/WAV/Opus/FLAC/M4A/PCM), and weighted voice combinations all work out of the box, plus a web UI at /web.

One tradeoff worth flagging: the stock image ships with no auth, so if you're exposing it on a public Railway domain you'll want to put something in front of it yourself - I haven't wrapped this one in a proxy the way I did for a couple of the other templates.

The one-click part that took the most fiddling: the stock image has no auth by default, so the template auto-generates a random password on deploy (OPENCODE_SERVER_PASSWORD) instead of shipping wide open on a public Railway domain. There's also a persistent volume on the workspace directory so your project files survive a redeploy.

Built a Railway template for ElectricSQL - a sync engine that sits in front of your existing Postgres and streams partial "Shapes" of your data to clients in real time, instead of you hand-rolling polling or a websocket layer yourself.

It's BYO Postgres - the template is just the electric container, you point it at whatever Postgres you already have running (on Railway or elsewhere). One gotcha on that Postgres side: it needs wal_level = logical enabled (ALTER SYSTEM SET wal_level = 'logical', then restart), which some locked-down managed Postgres providers don't allow - Railway's own Postgres template is fine with it.

Railway-specific thing that actually bit me setting this up: private networking on Railway is IPv6-only (*.railway.internal), so if you're connecting Electric to a Postgres service over the private network you need ELECTRIC_LISTEN_ON_IPV6=true and ELECTRIC_DATABASE_USE_IPV6=true set, or the hostname just won't resolve. Both are on by default in the template so you don't have to find that out the hard way.

Built a Railway template for Gitea - a lightweight self-hosted Git server (repos, issues, PRs, code review, built-in CI via Gitea Actions, package registry) that runs comfortably as a single small container, instead of GitLab's much heavier footprint.

It's genuinely zero-config: no env vars required, SQLite by default, and pinned to 1.26.4 so an upstream release doesn't silently change behavior under you mid-use. One thing worth flagging: the instance is open to anyone until you complete the install wizard and create the first admin account, so do that right after the first deploy rather than leaving the tab sitting open. Also, the template only exposes the web UI by default - if you want git clone over SSH you'll need to add a second Railway TCP proxy to port 22 and flip on the built-in SSH server in Gitea's own settings.

Built a Railway template for ArangoDB - a multi-model database that does graph, document, and key-value storage in one engine with AQL as the query language, so a GraphRAG-style pipeline doesn't need separate graph, vector, and document stores stitched together.

The template is just the stock arangodb:latest image, but with two things fixed that the raw image leaves to you: the root password is generated as a random Railway secret instead of you having to remember to set one, and there's a volume mounted at /var/lib/arangodb3 so your data actually survives a redeploy instead of living in the container filesystem.

Tradeoff worth flagging, since I hit this looking for prior art on r/dataengineering: the free Community Edition caps a deployment at 100GB. Plenty for most side projects and knowledge-graph experiments, but if you're planning something bigger you're into Enterprise licensing, which this template doesn't touch.

I got tired of wiring up auth, database migrations, file uploads, and WebSocket channels for every new project. Supabase's self-host stack is a dozen containers. PocketBase is SQLite. I wanted PostgreSQL, supabase-js compatibility, and a deploy button that works.

So I built Sinopebase — a single Bun service that speaks the supabase-js API. Auth, database, storage, realtime, and AI in one process. Deploy it on Railway, connect PostgreSQL and a bucket, and you have a working backend before your coffee gets cold.
